TRINITY CAN'T FIND THE NET AT COLBY IN MEN'S LACROSSE
Waterville, Maine - Senior co-captain goalie John Shea (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) allowed just two goals and made 14 saves to lead the Colby College White Mules to a 7-2 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse action this afternoon. Trinity drops to 1-6 overall with its third straight loss, while the White Mules, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 26 in the nation, improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the league with their third win in a row.
The Mules opened the scoring on a goal by sophomore Mike Haimes (Old Greenwich, Conn.), and went ahead, 2-0, on a score by senior Bill Spencer (Sudbury, Mass.), who batted a pass out of midair past Bantam senior netminder Eric Wilson (West Hartford, Conn.).
The Bantams offense began to establish some tempo in the second quarter, keeping the ball in their offensive zone for the majority of the start of the period. Trinity scored its first goal when sophomore midfielder Will Peace (Chestertown, Md.) took a pass from freshman middie John Thach (Berwyn, Pa.) and snuck it past Shea. The Mules answered quickly when junior Ben Winston (Golden, Colo.) found daylight and barreled down the middle of the field untouched to up the Colby lead to 3-1.
After two Colby scores in the third quarter, Thach notched his second point of the day with a goal that put the score at 5-2. The Bantam offense showed a sense of urgency, creating clear shots for scoring opportunities, but Shea was up to the challenge and turned their attempts away. Wilson made eight saves for the Bantams, who outshot Colby, 28-25, despite the loss..
