Sports update, men's lacrosse at Williams, 4/15/00

TRINITY MEN'S LAX LOSES TO WILLIAMS

Amherst, MA - Senior midfielder Nick Weisser (Baltimore, MD) scored seven
goals to lead the Williams Ephs to a 17-13 win over the visiting Trinity
College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's
lacrosse action this afternoon.  
	Trinity College, ranked No. 19 in the nation and No. 5 in New
England falls to 8-1 with its first defeat of the spring and 5-1 in the
Snively League and Williams, ranked No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in the
region, improves to 5-1 and 3-1 in the league.
	Williams scored the first two goals of the game on scoring attempts
by sophomore attackman Scott Goldberg (Englewood, CO) and senior co-captain
attackman Robert Adamo (Garden City, NY).  Senior midfielder Andy Hayes
(Philadelphia, PA) got the Bantams on the board with a goal less than a
minute after Adamo's, and senior midfielder John Harrelson (Longmeadow, MA)
and senior attackman Alex Ullman (North Haven, CT) scored later in the
period to tie the game at 3-3 withg 2:03 remaining in the first quarter.
Weisser scored his first of the game in the final minute of the period for
Williams.
	Hayes scored twice and Ullman scored once in the second period for
the Bantams but the Ephs also scored three times to make the score, 7-6, in
Williams' favor at the half.  The Ephs took control in the third quarter,
scoring three unanswered goals in a four-minute span to take an 11-7 but
Trinity rallied with goals by junior midfielders Mark Tassie (Hopwell, NJ)
and Peter Rogers (Southington, CT) in the period's last two minutes.
	Only Williams scored in the opening 8:36 of the final frame, before
a barrage of scores by both team resulted in a 17-13 final score.  Senior
tri-captain attackman Bobby Souers (Montgomery Village, MD) scored two of
the Bantams goals in the period while Tassie and Ullman scored the others.
	Williams outshot Trinity, 43-30, and freshman goalie Mike Buscher
(New Canaan, CT) made 12 saves.  Trinity senior tri-captain Matt Jerry
(Acton, MA) stopped 13 shots in net for the Bantams.
