EASTERN CONNECTICUT SHUTS DOWN TRINITY MEN'S LAX
Willimantic, CT- Senior goalie Ryan Reitano (Billerica, MA) made 11
saves to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 7-3 win
over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in men's lacrosse action this
afternoon.
Eastern, which is ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 20 in the
nation, improves to 12-1 with its seventh consecutive win. The Bantams,
ranked No. 5 in New England and No. 16 nationally, falls to 9-3 with its
second straight loss and its third in the last four games. The loss all but
ends Trinity's hopes of earning a first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III
Chmapionship Tournament.
Reitano and the Warrior defense held the Bantams scoreless for a 39
minute stretch after Trinity had taken a 2-1 lead with four minutes
remaining in the first quarter. Eastern scored four goals during the
stretch to take a 5-2 lead with 11:44 left in the third period.
Trinity closed to within two goals when sophomore midfielder Peter
Rogers (Southington, CT) scored on an assist from senior attackman Alex
Ullman (North Haven, CT) with 10:44 remaining in the game. The Warriors
countered with a goal by junior midfielder Jeff Reinhart (Londonderry, NH)
at 9:31 and Eastern held Trinity scoreless the rest of the way.
The Bantams had taken an early lead in the first quarter on goals by
freshman attackman Ravi Pillay (Bethesda, MD) and senior midfielder Andy
Hayes (Philadelphia, PA). Senior tri-captain goalie Matt Jerry (Acton, MA)
kept Trinity in the game throughout with 18 saves.
