Sports update, men's lacrosse vs. Bowdoin, 4/29/00

BOWDOIN PULLS AWAY FROM TRINITY IN MEN'S LACROSSE 

Hartford, CT - Junior attackman Alex Ellis (Brookline, MA) totaled seven
points with four goals and three assists to lead the visiting Bowdoin
College Polar Bears to a 16-11 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New
England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action this
afternoon.
	Bowdoin, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 8 in the nation,
improves to 10-2 for the season.  The Bantams, ranked No. 5 in New England
and No. 22 in the nation, finish the regular season at 9-4 with its fourth
defeat in five games.
	  The Trinity defense played well early and junior midfielder Mark
Tassie (Hopewell, NJ) and senior midfielder Andy Hayes (Philadelphia, PA)
scored early goals to help the Bantams to a 2-1 lead after one quarter.
	In the second frame, the Polar Bears broke a 3-3 tie with four
unanswered goals, including two by Ellis, and Bowdoin led, 7-3 at the half.
	The teams traded goals in the third quarter to make the score, 10-6,
after three quarters, and Bowdoin outscored Trinity, 6-5, in the fourth
quarter.  The Bantams closed to within two goals twice in the second half
but after an unassisted fourth quarter goal by Tassie, Bowdoin scored six
times in the final 12:18.
	Bowdoin took advantage of Trinity penalties with four extra-man
goals.  Junior midfielder Jeff Neill (Key West, FL) and senior attackman
Nick Liebman (Denver, CO) scored three goals each and senior attackman Nick
Rutherford (Woodbridge, CT) added three assists.  Senior goalie Will Casella
(Sewickley, PA) made 15 saves for the Polar Bears.
	Trinity senior tri-captain goalie Matt Jerry (Acton, MA) stopped 17
shots, while Tassie notched four goals and senior tri-captain Bobby Souers
(Montgomery Village, MD) added two goals and an assisr for the Bantams.
