PHINNEY LEADS MIDDLEBURY MEN’S
ICE HOCKEY TO WIN VERSUS TRINITY

 

Middlebury, Vt.- Sophomore forward Brian Phinney (Ripton, Vt.) scored two goals to lead the Middlebury Panthers to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s ice hockey action at Kenyon Arena tonight. 

The loss drops the Bantams, ranked No. 12 in the nation, to 13-5-2 overall and 12-4-1 in the NESCAC.  The win pushes the Panthers, ranked No. 3 in the nation, to 17-3-1 overall and extends their unbeaten streak to 15 straight games.  Middlebury improves to 14-2-1 in the league, clinching the top seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the fourth straight season.

Middlebury scored all of its goals in the second period, after trailing, 1-0, entering the frame.  Trinity sophomore forward Ryan Stevens (Concord, N.H.) scored a pair of goals for the Bantams, and classmate Doug Kiselius (Park Ridge, Ill.) stopped 21 shots in goal.   Freshman netminder Yen-I Chen (Rigard, Quebec) stopped 19 of 21 shots faced for the Panthers.
