TRINITY MEN’S ICE HOCKEY GETS REVENGE ON DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPION NORWICH

Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College junior goalkeeper Geoffrey Faulkner (Westerville, Ohio) made 28 saves to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-2 win over the visiting Norwich University cadets in men’s ice hockey action this evening.

Trinity, ranked no. 13 in NCAA Division III, improves to 8-2-1 and a perfect 5-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Norwich, the defending NCAA Division III National Champions, fall to 5-5 and 2-1 in the ECAC East. The win was the fifth in the last six games for the Bantams with the loss coming to the Cadets at Norwich last Saturday in the finals of the Times Argus Invitational by a score of 5-4.

The Bantams scored two goals in each of the first two periods to open up a 4-0 lead with 8:01 remaining in the second stanza. Junior forward Matt Greason (North Bridgton, Maine) scored Trinity’s first goal at the 13:04 mark of the first period off a pass by junior defenseman Mike Sayre (Walpole, N.H.), and also assisted Bantam senior forward Denis Petrov (Novokuznetsk, Russia) on the second goal with :25 to go in the first.

Norwich cut the Trinity lead to 4-2 with 4:49 on a goal by freshman forward Chris Petracco (Weston, Ontario). Cadet senior goalie Nate Eusko (East Hartford, Conn.) held the Bantams scoreless in relief of sophomore starter Randy Hevey (Chicopee, Mass.) for over 15 minutes. However, Trinity freshman Steven LaBrie (Springfield, Mass.) picked up a loose puck, and shot it past Eusko to put the game out of reach at 5-2 with 8:14 to play. LaBrie added an assist in the game.
