TRINITY BEATS NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE FOR WEEKEND SWEEP OF NEW HAMPSHIRE SCHOOLS ON THE ICE
Henniker, N.H. - Five different players found the net to lead visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 5-3 win over the Eastern College Athletic Conference East New England College Pilgrims in men's ice hockey this evening. The Bantams win their second game in two days, and are now 5-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Pilgrims, which lose their second game in a row, fall to 3-4 and 0-4 in the East.
Trinity scored the first four goals of the game with single goals in the first and second periods and two goals in the opening 4:41 of the third frame. Junior forward Jeffrey Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman defenseman Sean Doherty (Kennebunk, Maine) scored the first two goals of the game. Freshman forward Dan Gyllstrom (Hudson, Mass.) assisted on both scores.
The Pilgrims scored two unanswered goals in the third period, by junior forward Ryan Enrico (Hoboken, N.J.) and senior forward Keith Wallace (Charlestown, Mass.), to cut the Bantam lead to 4-2 with 10:37 remaining in the game. Trinity senior forward Denis Petrov (Novokuznetsk, Russia) put the game out of reach 1:06 later.
Trinity junior Geoff Faulkner (Westerville, Ohio) stopped 37 shots, while Pilgrim netminders Ryan Thomson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) and Sumner Stetson (Anchorage, Alaska) combined for 32 saves.
