MEN’S BASKETBALL WITH COMEBACK WIN
Hartford, Conn.- Junior guard Keala Mills (Lenox, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points, sinking five out of six shots from beyond the three-point arc, and added four assists and three steals to lead the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals to an 81-80 win over the Trinity College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s basketball action this evening at Ray Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity drops to 14-8 overall and 4-4 in the NESCAC, while the Cardinals improve to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the league.with their fifth win the last six games.
Trinity, which dropped a 79-76 game against Wesleyan in the Skidmore Invitational in December, led by as many as eight points in the second half, before the Cardinals tied the score at 72-72 on a conventional three-point play by senior guard Chris Bray (Montague, Mass.) with just under four minutes on the clock.
Wesleyan led, 81-77, with just four seconds on the clock when a desperation three-pointer from the corner by Trinity sophomore guard John Halas (White Plains, N.Y.) dropped through from the net to cut the lead to one. Wesleyan had trouble inbounding the ball with 1.1 ticks on the scoreboard, and finally heaved the ball to half court. Wesleyan junior forward David Myrie (Queens, N.Y.) collided with Trinity senior tri-captain forward Ryan Uszenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) while both went after the ball, but no foul was called and the buzzer sounded.
Halas paced the Bantams with 18 points, four assists, and three blocks, while freshman forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) tallied 16 points and a team-high 10 boards, and Uszenski finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Trinity senior tri-captain forward Corey Days (Baltimore, Md.) added 12 points, eight caroms, and four assists, and sophomore guard Jesse Farrell (Minneapolis, Minn.) notched 10 pointsand seven assists.
Wesleyan junior forward Kanem Johnson (New Haven, Conn.) had 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Myrie totaled 11 points, six boards, and four dishes, and Bray had 10 points.
