Ithaca, N.Y.- Freshman forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) notched game-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 68-53 win over the Ithaca College Bombers in men’s basketball action this evening at Ben Light Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 6-3 with its fourth straight win, while the Bombers drop to 2-6 with their fourth loss in a row.
Trinity led, 32-29, at the half thanks to 11 points by senior tri-captain forward Ryan Uszenski (Woodbridge, N.J.). The Bantams opened the second stanza with a 19-7 run during which Rhoten scored 11 of the Trinity points to take a 51-36 lead with 12:28 remaining in the game. Ithaca pulled within six points at 55-49 with 6:13 on the clock on two free throws by junior forward Tyler Schulz (Monroe, N.Y.), but the Bantams responded with nine unanswered points including seven by junior guard Shaun Smyth (Manchester, Conn.), to put the game out of reach.
Uszenski finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals and Smyth totaled 15 points, hitting three three-pointers in five attempts, off the bench to join Rhoten in double figures in scoring for the Bantams. Trinity sophomore guard Jesse Farrell (Minneapolis, Minn.) added seven assists. Schulz paced the Bombers with 17 points, along with a team-high seven boards, while senior forward Will Hill (Highland Falls, N.Y.) added 12 points.
