TRINITY MEN’S BASKETBALL CLOBBERS COLBY
Hartford, Conn.- Senior tri-captain swingman Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) totaled a game-high 18 points, along with 14 rebounds, and six assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 81-60 win over the visiting Colby College White Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity improves to 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the NESCAC with its fifth straight win, while the Mules drop to 10-13 overall and 3-5 in the league. Trinity will clinch the top seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament with a win tomorrow night against Bowdoin or a loss tomorrow night by Williams against Middlebury.
Trinity went on a 17-0 run midway through the first period to take increase a 14-11 lead to 31-11 with less than seven minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman reserve guard John Halas (White Plains, N.Y.) scored all 10 of his points on the day to spark the run. The White Mules were able to pull within 12 points at the half, thanks to 10 points by senior forward Damien Strahorn (Menlo Park, Calif.).
In the second half, Colby cut the lead to as low as six points at 49-43 with 10:30 ton play, but the Bantams scored the next six points capped off by a fast break lay-up by Tabb. The Bantams pulled away over the final eight minutes of the game.
Four Trinity players finished in double figures in scoring, as junior forward Ryan Uszenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) and senior tri-captain forward Bryan Dion (East Haven, Conn.) scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to join Tabb and Halas. Uszenski added five steals and Dion grabbed six rebounds, while junior forward Corey Days (Baltimore, Md.) had eight points and eight boards off the bench. Trinity held the Mules to 30 percent shooting from the field.
Strahorn paced Colby with 15 points and added five rebounds, while sophomore guard Nick Loukes (Bangor, Maine) totaled 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals, and freshman guard Pat McGowan (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored 14 points.
