TABB POWERS TRINITY MEN’S HOOPS
TO WIN OVER BOWDOIN AND NESCAC TOP SEED

Hartford, Conn.- Senior tri-captain swingman Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 82-57 win over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s basketball action this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium.

Trinity finishes the regular season with a 17-4 overall record and an 8-1 mark in the NESCAC, after capturing its fifth straight win. The Polar Bears finish their regular season with two losses in two days, finishing 16-8 overall and 5-4 in the league. With the best record in the NESCAC, Trinity earns the top seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament to determine the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tourney. The Bantams receive a bye to the semi-final round and will host the semi-final and final rounds on Sat., Feb. 23 and Sun., Feb. 24. Trinity was the top seed in the conference tournament last season, but lost to Amherst in the finals.

The game started slowly with Bowdoin holding a 16-14 lead nine minutes into the contest. The Bantams went on a 16-5 run over the next six minutes to pull ahead, 30-21, but Bowdoin scored 11 of the ensuing 13 points to tie the score at 32-32 with a minute to play in the first half. Tabb and senior tri-captain forward Bryan Dion (East Haven, Conn.) scored first half points for Trinity, which held a 34-32 lead entering intermission. Dion also had nine rebounds in the opening 20 minutes, while senior reserve guard Hugh Coleman (Dorchester, Mass.) kept the Polar Bears close with 11 first half points.

Trinity quickly put the game away in the second half, going on a 29-8 run to start the half and take a 61-40 with a hair over 10 minutes left to play. The Bantams made 19 out of 31 shots from the field in the second half (61 percent), including six out of 11 from three-point range. Tabb made 12 out of 22 field goal attempts and sank all five of his free throws, while adding six rebounds and six assists. Dion finished with 16 points and 11 boards and freshman guard John Halas (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 11 points off the bench for the Bantams.

Bowdoin junior guard Braden Clement (Skowhegan, Maine) netted a team-high 15 points and grabbed six boards, while Coleman finished with 13 points, and senior guard Mark Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) notched eight points and five assists. Bowdoin shot just 30 percent from the field.
