TRINITY MEN’S BASKETBALL BEATS
WESLEYAN ON SENIOR DAY

Hartford, Conn. - Junior forward Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) scored a game-high 20 points with 11 rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 72-64 win over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball action this afternoon.

Trinity, which wins for the fourth time in the last five games, improves to 16-4 and 5-2 in the NESCAC. Wesleyan falls to 12-9 and 4-3 in the league. Trinity is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division III Northeast Region poll and tied with Colby for first place in the NESCAC.

Trinity opened up an early 19-10 lead on back-to-back lay-ups by junior forward Bryan Dion (East Haven, Conn.), but it soon evaporated as Wesleyan scored 14 of the next 19 points to tie the score at 24-24 with 2:53 remaining in the first half. The Bantams answered by scoring the final seven points of the half for a 31-24 lead at the break.

After Trinity extended its advantage to 12 points at 48-36 over the first seven minutes of the second half, the Cardinals scored eight consecutive points to pull to within four points at 48-44 with 10:12 remaining. Junior guard Leo Jones (Englewood, N.J.) scored six of the eight for Wesleyan.

Tabb hit a pair of three-pointers and Trinity junior guard Matt Jones (Meriden, Conn.) hit a third in the next minute, as the Bantams went ahead, 57-47 with 8:32 left to play.

Wesleyan battled back once again, cutting the lead to 62-59 with 3:27 remaining on two free throws by sophomore guard Chad Gordon (Los Angeles, Calif.), but Trinity scored 10 of the game’s final 15 points to hold on to the 10-point victory.

Trinity senior guard Mike Keohane (Belmont, Mass.) scored 15 points and dished out seven assists in the final regular season home game of his career, while classmate Michael LaBella (Middletown, Conn.) totaled 10 points, six assists, and four steals in his last regular season home game. Jones made four-three-pointers in five attempts in the second half for 12 points for the Bantams. Trinity made 12 out of 22 three-pointers in the game, including nine out of 15 in the second half.

Freshman guard Keala Mills (Lenox, Mass.) paced Wesleyan with 12 points, while Jones notched 11 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Sophomore guard Chris Bray (Montague, Mass.) and freshman center Kanem Johnson (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 points apiece for the Cardinals.
