TRINITY BEATS BOWDOIN TO CAPTURE TOP SEED
IN NESCAC MEN'S HOOPS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tabb Bombs Bowdoin With 26 Points
Brunswick, Maine - Junior forward Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 70-63 win over the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in the New England Small College Athletic Conference mens basketball regular season finale for both teams this afternoon.Trinity, which finishes the regular season at 17-5 overall, ends in a five-way tie for the best record in the NESCAC with Amherst, Colby, Wesleyan, and Williams. Because of the Bantams' 3-1 record against the tied teams, Trinity is the top seed in the inaugural NESCAC Championship Tournament to determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Trinity will receive a bye to the semifinal round and will host the semifinals and finals on Fri., Feb. 23 and Sat., Feb. 24. Bowdoin finishes the season at 14-9 and 3-6 in three league.
Tabb made 11 out of 17 shots from the field to help Trinity overcome a 29-24 deficit at the half. The Bantams made 16 out of 22 field goal attempts in the second half for a 72.7 percentage compared to a 26.7 percentage in the first half. Trinity also shot 83.3 percent from the foul line (20-24). Senior guard Mike Keohane (Belmont, Mass.) scored 15 points and junior forward Bryan Dion (East Haven, Conn.) totaled 13 points for the Bantams.
Senior guard Steve McKinnon (Pawtucket, R.I.) paced the Polar Bears with 19 points, sinking seven out 11 shots from the field, and sophomore guard Braden Clement (Skowhegan, Maine) scored 15 points. Junior guard Greg Orlicz (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 11 points for Bowdoin.
