TRINITY MEN'S HOOPS OUTSCORES BATES FOR ROAD WIN
Lewiston, Maine - Junior forward Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) totaled 18 points, six rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to an 87-84 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference mens basketball action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 12-3 and 3-1 in the NESCAC with its sixth win in the last seven games, while the Bobcats fall to 11-6 and 0-3 in the league with their third straight loss.
The game featured seven ties and 22 lead changes, particularly in the first half, in which neither team led by more than three points at any time. The Bantams opened the second half with an 11-4 run and took a 48-40 lead on a put-back by Tabb 3:17 into the half. The Bobcats responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes, and took the lead at 51-50. Bates extended their advantage to seven points at 62-55 with 9:44 remaining in the game, before the Bantams rallied to knot the score at 66-662:39 later.
Trinity senior guard Michael LaBella (Middletown, Conn.) finally gave Trinity the lead for good, 77-76, on a basket with 2:36 to go. Fellow senior guard Mike Keohane (Belmont, Mass.) hit a pair of free throws down the stretch for the Bantams.
Trinity junior forward Brian Dion (East Haven, Conn.) paced the Bantams in scoring with 20 points, sinking 10 out of 14 shots from the field. Keohane notched 18 points, five assists, and four steals, while sophomore forward Ryan Uszenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) added 17 points and team-high nine rebounds off the bench. Junior forward Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) scored a career-high 30 points, while senior forward Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) had 13 points and junior guard Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) scored 11 points for the Bobcats.
