TRINITY CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS SHINE
AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Bantam Women, Bak, and Emord Headed to
Nationals
Westfield, Mass.- Senior co-captain Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) won the men’s race to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a fifth place finish in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Men’s Cross Country Championships at Westfield State College this afternoon. Junior Karen Roy (Ashford, Conn.) came in 16th in the women’s race to help the Bantams finish fourth as a team in the Women’s Championships race.
The Trinity women qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships next Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. It is the first time the Bantam women have qualified for Nationals as a team. Bak, who finished with a time of 24:21 to capture the men’s New England title after finishing second last season, and fellow senior co-captain Jim Emord (Bridgewater, Mass.), who placed seventh at 24:59, return to the National Championships as individual qualifiers for the second straight year. Both earned All-American honors at Nationals last fall.
The Trinity women boasted five runners among the top 54 in the race, led by Roy with a time of 22:09, senior co-captain Kate Klein (Huntington, Vt.) in 30th at 22:31, and sophomore Christina Kane (Springfield, Mass.) at 22:53 for 38th place. Sophomore James Sullivan (Sterling, Mass.) finished 30th for the Trinity men at 25:44.
