TRINITY MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS WITH FOURTH PLACE NEW ENGLAND FINISH
North Dartmouth, Mass.- Senior co-captain Todd Markelz (Homer, Alaska) finished 11th overall to lead the Trinity Colege Bantams to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Men's Cross Country Championships at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
The Bantams, coached by George Suitor, qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend in Spokane, Wash. for the first time ever as a team. The Trinity men's team was ranked No. 6 in New England and No. 23 in NCAA Division III entering the meet.
The Trinity women finished 11th, led by sophomore Leeann Rheaume (Pittsfield, Mass.), who barely missed qualifying for the women's Nationals with a 26th-place finish. The top five teams and the top 25 individuals earn a trip to the National Championships.
Sophomores Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) and James Emord (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 15th and 17th for the Trinity men's squad.
