REARDON LEADS WILLIAMS TO WIN
OVER TRINITY FOOTBALL

Hartford, Conn.- Sophomore quarterback Joe Reardon (Arlington, Va.) completed 25 out of 35 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns to lead the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 31-10 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football action this afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity evens its season mark to 1-1, while Williams improves to 2-0 with their fifth straight win over the Bantams.

After Trinity went ahead, 3-0, on a 33-yard field goal by junior placekicker Skip Sullivan (Milton, Mass.), Williams scored 31 unanswered points including 17 in the first half. Reardon connected on touchdown passes to four different receivers and the Williams defense held Trinity to 160 yards in total offense (49 rushing, 111 passing).

Trinity took the ball away from Williams twice in the first quarter on an interception by senior safety Steven Cella (Peabody, Mass.) and a fumble recovery by sophomore defensive end Brendan Bowes (Wollaston, Mass.), but came away with only a 3-0 lead.

With Williams ahead, 7-3, in the second quarter, Trinity junior quarterback completed a 50-yard pass to freshman receiver Drew Finkeldey (Ivoryton, Conn.), but Eph senior defensive back Ben Sands (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) knocked the ball out of Finkeldey's hands at the Williams 34-yard line and junior safety Scott Farley (Williamstown, Mass.) pounced on the ball for Williams.

The Ephs failed to take advantage but Ward was intercepted by Eph junior defensive back John Kelly (Bronxville, N.Y.) on Trinity's next drive, giving Williams the ball on the Bantam 22-yard line with 9:11 remaining in the half. The Bantam defense held, but Farley booted a 38-yard field goal to extend the Williams lead to 10-7.

After a one of 11 punts for the day by Bantam sophomore Joe Wahl (Riverside, R.I.), Williams went ahead, 17-3, on a 52-yard scoring pass from Reardon to senior receiver Jamiyl Peters (Newark, N.J.). The play came on second down and 20 after a bad snap had pushed the Ephs back into their own territory.
Williams put the game away in the third quarter as senior Colin Brooks (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior Ryan Friend (Bedford, Mass.) each caught touchdown passes. Trinity scored a late touchdown in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by sophomore running back Tom Pierandri (Ridgefield, Conn.).

The Trinity defense played well against the run, holding Williams to 88 yards on the ground, most of which was gained when the contest was no longer in doubt. The Ephs totaled 334 yards through the air, however, including 100 receiving yards on seven catches by Friend and four catches for 71 yards by Peters. Ward threw for 111 yards (10-for-26), with Wahl catching four passes for 35 yards.

Defensively, Trinity sophomore Greg Tanner (Wellesley, Mass.) made a career-high 13 tackles, while junior captain linebacker David Midura (Easton, Mass.) added seven. Senior linebacker James Kingsley (Madison, Conn.) paced the Ephs with eight stops. Wahl netted 37.3 yards per punt for a ttal of 410 yards for the Bantams.
