FARRAR HELPS BATES DEFEAT
TRINITY FIELD HOCKEY
Lewiston, Maine -- Junior forward Johie Farrar (W. Paris, Maine)
scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season as the host Bates College field
hockey year broke into the win column with a 2-0 New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory over the Trinity College Bantams.
Bates (1-4, 1-2 NESCAC) opened the scoring early, just 4:05 into the contest, as
Farrar blasted home a score on a penalty corner. Junior Pippi Philp (Portsmouth,
N.H.) picked up her first assist of the season. The teams played even for
the next 50 minutes of play before Farrar added her second goal of the game on a
feed from classmate Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.) with just over
11 minutes left in the contest. The goal marked the fourth time this season
Price and Farrar have connected for a goal.
The goalkeepers were busy in this game as Trinity's Jess Martin (Fort Myers,
Fla.) made 19 stops in the losing effort and Bates' Lindsay Gary (Del
Mar, Calif.) made nine saves for her first career solo shutout. Bates has
now won three in a row from Trinity.
