BROWN GIVES TRINITY FIELD HOCKEY
SEASON OPENING WIN AT SMITH
Northampton, Mass.- Senior tri-captain forward Whitney Brown (Northfield, Ill.) scored one goal and one assist, including the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 3:42 remaining in regulation, to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to 2-1 win over the Smith College Pioneers in field hockey action this afternoon. Trinity is now 1-0 and Smith is 0-1.
Sophomore defense Katelyn Bowman (Summit, N.J.) scored the Bantams' first goal from Brown with 28:20 left in the first half. The Pioneers tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Hadley Gerhardt 2:06 later. Trinity freshman Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, Ohio) made 11 saves in her career debut in goal. Tatiana Zalazo had six saves for Smith.
