TRUDEAU AND SMITH LEAD KEENE STATE
FIELD HOCKEY OVER TRINITY
Keene, N.H. - Senior co-captain Carrie Trudeau (Saco, Maine) had two goals and Kelly Smith (Lisbon, N.H.) added a goal and two assists to lead the Keene State College Owls to a 4-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in field hockey action this evening.
Trinity falls to 1-2 and 0-1 in the NESCAC with its second straight loss, while the Owls, ranked No. 6 in the nation, improve to 5-1 with their third consecutive victory.
Keene scored two first half goals off penalty corners by Trudeau and Carolyn Costello (Oxford, N.Y.), and Smith gave the Owls a 3-0 lead early in the second half on a shot from 10 yards out. After Trudeau put Keene up by four goals, Trinity senior co-captain forward Whitney Brown (Northfield, Ill.) got the Bantams on the board with 3:03 left in the game on an assist from fellow senior co-captain Mary Jacobs (Malvern, Pa.).
Freshman goalkeeper Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, Ohio) made one save for Trinity, while two netminders combined for three Owl saves.
