GILBERT LEADS COLBY FIELD HOCKEY OVER TRINITY

Waterville, Maine- Junior forward Rebecca Bruce (Exeter, N.H.) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Colby College White Mules to a 4-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey action this afternoon.

Trinity falls to 1-8 and 0-5 in the NESCAC with its eighth consecutive defeat, while Colby improves to 4-5 and 1-4 in the league.

The White Mules received goals by three different players in the first half, and added a fourth goal early in the second half, before allowing a late goal by Trinity sophomore forward Lindsay Peet (Stowe, Vt.). Stowe took a pass from junior forward Brooke Evans (Marston Mills, Mass.) with 8:13 left in the game and shot the ball past Colby sophomore goalkeeper Carrie Torrisi (Andover, Mass.).

Freshman goalkeeper Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, Ohio) made two saves early in the game, before junior Jessica Martin (Fort Myers, Fla.) made her season debut in relief with 18 saves. Senior tri-captain goalkeeper Jane Stevens (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Torrisi combined for 14 saves for the Mules.
