PETITT GOAL LEADS CLARK
FIELD HOCKEY TO WIN AT TRINITY
Hartford, Conn.- Freshman forward Jessica Petitt (Hatfield, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 5:11 remaining in the game to lead the visiting Clark University Cougars to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in field hockey action this afternoon.
The Cougars improve to 9-4 with their fourth straight victory, while
Trinity falls to 1-10 with its
tenth loss in a row.
Trinity scored first on an unassisted goal by junior forward Heather Standring (Spencer, Mass.) with 5:42 left in the first half. Junior goalie Jess Martin (Fort Myers, Fla.) held the Cougars at bay in the half with seven saves.
Trinity held the lead into the second half until Clark junior forward Lynne Casey (Leominster, Mass.) lifted a penalty stroke past Martin and into the upper left corner of the goal. The Cougars started to gain control, keeping the ball on their half of the field the majority of the final 25 minutes. Petitt scored the deciding goal on an assist from Casey.
Martin totaled 20 saves in the game, while senior tri-captain Lynne Bachand (Worcester, Mass.) made nine for the Cougars. Clark outshot Trinity, 22-15.
