SCADUTO GOAL PROPELS BOWDOIN
FIELD HOCKEY PAST TRINITY IN OVERTIME
Brunswick, Maine - Junior tri-captain Allison Scaduto (Allenwood, N.J.) scored with 1:49 left in the second overtime period to lift the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a sudden-death, 1-0 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams this afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action.
Trinty falls to 1-9 and 0-6 in the NESCAC with its ninth consecutive defeat, while Bowdoin, which entered the week ranked No. 15 in the country, improves to 10-1 and 6-1 in the league with its eighth win in a row..
The two teams played two halves of regulation but neither could get on the board. Bowdoin held a 30-9 advantage in shots but Trinity was kept in the game by the superb play of junior goalie Jessica Martin (Fort Myers, Fla.), who made 22 saves during regulation play. Martin, a two-year starter, was making her first start of the 2000 season after missing eight games with an injury.
Each team had several chances in the overtime period, but Bowdoin finally took the game when sophomore Jackie Templeton (Middlebury, Conn.) fed Scaduto in front of the net for the game winner. Martin finished with 28 saves while Bowdoin goalie Jill McDonald (Hudson, Quebec) made four saves to pick up the triumph.
