TIDMARSH AND PIANTEK LEAD TRINITY BASEBALL TO WIN AGAINST TUFTS

Hartford, Conn. – Junior right-hander Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-1 win over the visiting Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 3 in New England improves to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in the NESCAC East, while the Jumbos, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 21 in the nation, drop to 13-7 overall and 5-2 in the division.

Trinity scored three runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by senior co-captain Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) and a Jumbo error, while Tidmarsh kept Tufts scoreless until the fifth frame when freshman Matt Clement (Norwood, Mass.) reached on an error and scored on a double play ball.  Piantek single-handedly answered for the Bantams with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, and Trinity added an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.).

Piantek finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Natale added three hits in four at-bats with a double and an RBI.  Senior co-captain righty David Martin (Arlington, Mass.) went the distance for the Jumbos, allowing 13 hits and five earned runs for his first loss of the season.  Tidmarsh improves to 5-0 for Trinity.
