TRINITY BASEBALL RACES PAST SPRINGFIELD FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
Springfield, Mass. – Sophomore Robert O’Leary (Easton, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 13-4 win over the Springfield College Pride in baseball action this afternoon at Berry-Allen Field. Trinity, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, improves to 17-7 with its fifth straight win, while the Pride drops to 15-15.
Trailing, 2-0, after one inning thanks to a pair of infield errors, Trinity quickly tied the score in the top of the second frame on a sacrifice fly by O’Leary and an RBI single by sophomore Matt Engster (Glastonbury, Conn.). Springfield went back ahead in the bottom of the inning, as the Bantams committed three more errors in the infield.
Trinity broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Junior Eric Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) belted a two-run double, while sophomore Angel Resto (Framingham, Mass.) and senior co-captain Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) contributed RBI singles in the inning. The Bantams added two seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach, while sophomore righty Joe Westcott (Holyoke, Mass.) held the Pride scoreless in every inning but the sixth to earn his third win.
