TRINITY BASEBALL SPLITS WITH BOWDOIN
Hartford, Conn.- Senior co-captain Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) reached base safely in all nine of his plate appearances on the day to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a split with the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball doubleheader htis afternoon at Central Connecticut State University. Trinity stands at 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC East, while Bowdoin moves to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the division. The three-game series was moved from Bowdoin to Central Connecticut due to the poor field conditions at Bowdoin and Trinity.
Trinity prevailed in the first game, 10-9, despite loding a four-run lead in the bottom of the seventh. Piantek’s knocked in three runs and sophomore Billy Wise (Longmeadow, Mass.) belted his first career home run in the top of the seventh. Sophomore Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio) had the game-winning hit in the eighth for the Bantams. John Clifford (Wayland, Mass.) carried the Bowdoin offense, going 3-for-5 with five RBI in Game 1. Piantek hit two home runs, including a tape measure shot that traveled an estimated 450 feet, and drove in five runs on the day. In Game 2, Bowdoin exploded for nineteen runs on nineteen hits in a 19-10 triuumph. Freshman Jared Lemieux (Livermore Falls, Maine) had three hits and drove in three runs for the Polar Bears
