TIDMARSH SALVAGES SPLIT AND STRIKES OUT
13 IN TRINITY BASEBALL WIN AT BATES
Lewiston, Maine - Junior right-hander Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) remained flawless in seven starts, tossing a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to an 18-1 win in the second game and a split of the doubleheader against the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon at Leahey Field.
Trinity, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, improve to 8-3 in the NESCAC East and 19-8 overall, while the Bobcats are now 8-16 overall and 4-7 in the division. Bates took the first game, 5-4, snapping a five game Bantam winning streak.
In the opener, Bates broke open a scoreless game with a pair of runs in the fourth on the back of a wild pitch and a Trinity miscue in the field and added a third run in the home half of the fifth. After a walk and a dropped fly ball in the top of the sixth frame put runners at second and third for the Bantams, Bates sophomore reliever John Ribas (Shelton, Conn.) induced Trinity sophomore Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio) to ground out, allowing a run to score. Bantam sophomore Billy Wise (Longmeadow, Mass.) then followed with a single to score senior co-captain Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) from third, cutting the lead to 3-2.
The Bobcats answered with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, one on a throwing error and the second on a base hit by junior Owen Miehe (Glen Rock, N.J.). Bates would need both of those runs as Trinity senior Robert Dolliver (Norwich, Conn.) blasted a two-out, 0-2 pitch over the right-center field fence to make it a one run game, although Ribas struck out the last batter. Sophomore righty Matt Kinsman (Yarmouth, Maine) recorded the win on the mound and Ribas picked up his first save of the year. Sophomore right-handed starter Mike Tremblay (Hooksett, N.H.) was tagged with the loss, his third in five decisions.
The second game lacked the dramatics of the first as Trinity tallied seven runs in the second inning, six more in the fifth and finished with five more in eighth, en route to an 18-1 win. The Bantams hit three home runs in the game, including a three-run shot by sophomore Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.), and a grand slam by Dolliver in the second that was immediately followed by a solo blast from Piantek. Piantek made up for his 0-for-3 effort in the first game with a 3-for-6 performance with two runs scored and one driven in the nightcap, while Wise added three singles and three runs scored.

DORR LEADS TRINITY BASEBALL TO WIN
AT BATES IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Lewiston, Maine - Senior co-captain Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) went 3-for-6 with three runs, two RBI, a double, and a home run to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 10-5 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball action this afternoon at Leahey Field. Trinity, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, finishes the regular season atop the NESCAC East Division at 9-3 and with a 19-8 overall mark, while Bobcats drop to 8-17 overall and close at 4-8 in the division. The Bantams qualify for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the third straight season and will play a first round game on Fri., May 9.
It didn’t take Trinity long to get on the board when, after a leadoff walk to sophomore Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.), cracked his ninth home run of the season over the left field fence to put the Bantams up 2-0. Leading, 3-2, after one inning, Trinity came plated five runs in the second to give sophomore right-handed starter Chris Rodday (Concord, Mass.) some breathing room. Senior co-captain Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Billy Wise (Longmeadow, Mass.) each had two-run singles in the inning.
The Bobcats would cut the lead to four after a two-run double by junior Drew McKenna (Middleborough, Mass.) in the fifth, but that would be a close as Bates could come. Dorr and sophomore Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio) each collected three hits for the Bantams. Trinity’s first six hitters went 12-for-28 with 12 hits, nine runs scored and 10 RBI, and Rodday upped his record to 3-0 on the season after going five innings and striking out four batters.
