SPANOS PITCHES TRINITY BASEBALL
TO WIN OVER SPRINGFIELD
Piantek Sets New College Home Run Record

Hartford, Conn.- Senior co-captain right-hander Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs and eight hits with eight strikeouts, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 win over the visiting Springfield College Pride in baseball action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 18-5 overall with its second straight win, while the Pride drops to 12-12 with its first loss in the last three games.

Trinity junior infielder Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) blasted his ninth home run of the season, breaking the previous Bantam season record of eight held by Kirk Chisholm ’99 and Christian Sheehan ’98. Piantek’s homer broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, and was followed by a single from freshman 2B Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.), a walk, a hit batsman, and a Pride error that allowed tow more Bantams to cross the plate.
After a two-run homer by Springfield sophomore Toby Cole (Blue Hill, Maine) cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the eighth frame, the Bantams put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by senior outfielder Mark Mahoney (Newton, Mass.) and Spanos.
