TRINITY BASEBALL SPLITS WITH PLYMOUTH STATE
Cape Coral, Fla.- Junior second baseman Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) went 5-for-8 and homered in both games to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-6 win in the second game and a split of the doubleheader with the Plymouth State College Panthers in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Baseball Classic this afternoon. Trinity is now 6-2, while Plymouth State moves to 3-5.
Trinity scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to record the come-from-behind victory in the nightcap. Senior right-hander Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) went the distance for the Bantams on the mound, allowing seven hits and pitching four scoreless frames to close the game, to up his season mark to 2-0. Freshman Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio) homered for the second time in three games, while classmate Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.) was 2-for-2, including his first career home run for the Bantams.
