TRINITY BASEBALL FALLS SHORT AT EASTERN
CONNECTICUT IN LATE INNINGS
Piantek Ties Single Season RBI Mark

Mansfield, Conn.- Sophomore right-hander Joey Serfass (Newington, Conn.) pitched a four-hitter to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 9-1 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in baseball action this afternoon at ECSU Stadium. Trinity, ranked No. 6 in New England, falls to 18-6, while the Warriors, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 5 in the nation, improves to 23-5-1 and 11-0 at home.

Trinity senior right-hander Mark Mahoney (Newton, Mass.) took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, after allowing four hits and fanning four. With two out in the seventh, the Warriors took the lead on a two-run single by sophomore SS Eugene Julien (Brockton, Mass.), and added six more runs over the next one and one-third innings.
Trinity broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh frame on a two-out, RBI single by junior infielder Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) that scored senior co-captain SS Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) from second base. The run-batted-in was the 42nd of the season for Piantek, tying Freimuth's 1999 total for the Trinity single-season record.
