TRINITY BASEBALL WINS AT COLBY
AS FREIMUTH AND PIANTEK TIE RECORDS
Waterville, Maine- Junior right-hander Jonah Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) allowed six hits and no runs with 10 strikeouts over eight innings to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 5-2 win over the Colby College White Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East baseball action this afternoon at Coombs Field. Trinity ranked No. 5 in New England, improves to 16-4 and 6-1 in the NESCAC East with its second straight win, while the Mules drop to 6-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Trinity held a 1-0 lead into the eighth inning, thanks to the effective pitching of Colby starter Brandon Royce (Augusta, Maine), who held the Trinity line-up to one run and three hits for the first seven innings before the Bantam bats picked up four runs in the eighth.
Trinity was led by junior infielder Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) who blasted a solo homerun to left field in the seventh, tying the Trinity record for home runs in a season with eight, and singled in a run in the eighth. Bantam junior 3B Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) also came through in the eighth with a two-run double. Trinity senior co-captain shortstop Andy Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) notched his 180th career hit to tie Mike Rainieri '96 for the College's all-time career hit record.
