TRINITY BASEBALL SPLITS AT COLBY
Freimuth Sets New Trinity Hit Record With Home Run

Waterville, Maine- Freshman right-hander Mark Tremblay (Hooksett, N.H.) scattered nine hits and three runs over eight innings to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 12-3 win in the second game and a split of the doubleheader against the Colby College White Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East baseball action this afternoon at Coombs Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in New England, improves to 17-5 overall and 7-2 in the NESCAC East, after taking two of the three games from the Mules this weekend. Colby, who took today's first game, 6-5, drops to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the league.
In the first game, Colby sophomore B.L. Lippert (Augusta, Maine) capped a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh with a game-winning homerun. Trinity had held the Mule offense to one run in the first six innings behind the pitching of Bantam sophomore righty Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) prior to the rally.
Trinity was finally able to get to Colby junior starter Kevin Presbrey (Aurora, Ill.) in the fifth inning when senior co-captain centerfielder Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) blasted a two-run homerun over the left-field fence. Trinity seemed to be pulling away in the top of the seventh when they scored three more runs on a Spanos RBI single and another two-run blast from fellow senior co-captain Andrew Freimuth '02 (Bristol, Conn.) to right-center. The shot gave Freimuth 181 hits in his career, surpassing Mike Rainieri '96 for first place on the College's all-time list.
Tidmarsh went the entire way for Trinity with six strikeouts but suffers his first loss to drop to 4-1. Presbrey three earned runs on 9 hits with three strikeouts to earn the win for Colby. Lippert finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, while Spanos led Trinity, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Trinity scored six runs in the top half of the eighth inning to seal their victory in the nightcap, opening the game with two quick runs in the first, on a two-run double by junior infielder Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.). Two batters later, Piantek scored as freshman Jeff Natale (Hamden, Conn.) and junior 3B Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.) drew back to back walks.
The Mules came back in the bottom of the first on RBI single by Lippert and freshman Jared Cushman (Augusta, Maine) to tie the game 2-2. After a After another Colby run in the second frame, Piantek single sparked a four-run Bantam rally with two down in the fifth. Piantek's hit, followed by two walks, set up senior outfielder Alan Andreini (Greenwich, Conn.) for a base hit, knocking in two runs. Classmate Tom Osuch (Fairhaven, Mass.) followed suit with a two-run double down the left field line, and Trinity went on to add six runs to their lead. Dorr knocked in two of those runs as he doubled over the head of the left fielder. Dorr and Andreini both went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs.
