TRINITY SWEEPS BOWDOIN IN BASEBALL
Hartford, Conn.- Senior co-captain righthander Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) and junior righty Jonah Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) allowed 10 hits and four earned runs in 14 innings pitched between them, leading the Trinity College Bantams to a 13/11-4/3 sweep of the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division baseball doubleheader this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England, improves to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the league with its fourth and fifth straight wins, while Bowdoin drops to 5-7 and 0-3 in the league.Trinity pounded out 14 hits and never trailed in the first game, as Bayliss worked six innings with seven strikeouts. In the nightcap, Trinity trailed, 2-0, in the sixth frame, before capitalizing on five Bowdoin walks to score seven runs in its half of the inning. Senior shortstop Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) and junior infielder Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) each had two-run singles in the seventh. Spanos fanned eight batters in eight innings of work to earn his third win in as many starts.
