TRINITY LOSES TO WILLIAMS
IN NESCAC TOURNEY FIRST ROUND
Williamstown, Mass.- Senior Joe Steinberg (Pittsford, N.Y.) threw eight strong innings and Billy Casolo (Stamford, Conn.) drove in four runs as the Williams College Ephs defeated the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 9-3, in the first round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Baseball Tournament.
Trinity falls to 25-9 and will play Amherst, which lost to Tufts in the other first round game, tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Williams. Williams improves to 29-3 and will play Tufts tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
Steinberg (6-1) allowed three runs in his eight innings. He struck out five while scattering eight hits and walking only one batter. Trinity went ahead, 2-0, in the fourth on RBI singles by Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) and Jayme Dorr (Osterville, Mass.). Steinberg got Tony O'Shaughnessy( Manchester, N.H.) to ground out to second with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Williams tied it in its half of the fourth. Mark Scialabba (Queensbury, N.Y.) hit an RBI double and later came home on a fielder's choice. The Ephs then broke the game open in the fifth, putting a string of hits together off Trinity starter Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.). Casolo put the game out of reach in the seventh with a two-run triple to left-center.
