TRINITY BASEBALL WALLOPS WPI FOR 11TH STRAIGHT WIN

Hartford, Conn.- Junior Alan Andreini (Greenwich, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 11-8 win over the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers in their baseball home opener this afternoon.

Trinity, which has won 11 games in a row and is ranked No. 1 in the New England Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 14-1, while the Engineers fall to 6-9 with their fourth consecutive loss. The game was originally scheduled at Worcester Tech but moved to Trinity due to a wet field in Worcester.

Trinity kept the pressure on from beginning to end, scoring in each of the first five innings. Junior Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Bantams a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish.

The Bantams took their biggest lead at 10-3 in the seventh inning on an RBI-single by junior Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) and an RBI-double by Freimuth. WPI scored five runs in the last two innings, capitalizing on a Trinity error and wild pitch in a three-run eighth frame.

Trinity sophomore right-hander Craig Tredenick (Cornwall, Prince Edward Island) pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and one earned run to up his season record to 2-1. Sophomore lefthander Matt Clark (Auburn, Mass.) tossed a complete game for the Engineers but gave up 18 hits to fall to 0-3.
