TRINITY BASEBALL TOPPLES WESTFIELD STATE
Hartford, Conn.- Junior Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) pitched eight shutout innings and had two hits with two RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 11-2 win over the visiting Westfield State College Owls in intercollegiate baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the New England Division III Coaches poll improves to 15-1 with its 12th consecutive victory, while the Owls fall to 1-11 with their sixth loss in a row.
Trinity scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on five Owl walks and a two-run single by junior Nick Callini (Westfield, Mass.). Trinity added three runs in the fifth frame on an RBI-double by junior Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) and a two-run home run by sophomore Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.). Spanos allowed just two hits and struck out three before giving way to Callini in the ninth inning. The Owls scored two runs in the last inning on a wild pitch and an RBI-ground out.
