YOUNG BAYLISS STRIKES OUT 16 IN NESCAC
TRIUMPH OVER COLBY BASEBALL
Willimantic, Conn.- Trinity sophomore right-hander Jonah Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) allowed three hits and one run with a career-high 16 strikeouts over eight innings to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 win over the visiting Colby College White Mules in the New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division baseball opener for both teams at Eastern Connecticut State University this evening.
Trinity, which has won eight games in a row and is ranked No. 1 in the New England Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 11-1 overall and 1-0 on the NESCAC East, while the White Mules fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the division. The game rescheduled and moved from Friday at Trinity due to a wet field in Hartford. Today's scheduled doubleheader between the schools at Trinity has been rescheduled for tomorrow at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn. at noon.
Trinity scored two runs in the first inning and added another pair of runs in the fourth, while Bayliss rendered the Colby lineup hitless until the sixth inning. Sophomore Kurt Piantek (Wallingford, Conn.) singled home junior Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) in the first frame to give Trinity the lead it never relinquished. Bayliss struck out the side three times and walked nine before giving way to freshman Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) in the ninth inning. Tidmarsh allowed his first run of the season after starting his collegiate career with nine scoreless innings.
