TRINITY BASEBALL HOLDS OFF COAST GUARD
IN COACH DECKER'S 200TH CAREER VICTORY
New London, Conn.- Junior Mark Mahoney (Newton, Mass.) hit an RBI single to left field to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh inning and lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-4 win over the United States Coast Guard Bears in baseball action this afternoon.
Trinity, which has won seven games in a row and is ranked No. 1 in the New England Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 10-1, while the Bears fall to 7-4. The game was the first the first for Trinity after a best-ever 9-1 record on its spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla., and the win was the 200th in the career of Head Coach Bill Decker (Greenfield, Mass.). Decker has complied a 200-111 mark in his 10-plus seasons, including an 80-32 record over the past three-plus years during which the Bantams have earned three consecutive NCAA Division III Championship bids.
Trinity junior Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.) had tied the score in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run single, while senior co-captain right-hander Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) pitched six innings to improve to 3-0. Bantam freshman righty Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) tossed the last three scoreless frames to earn his second save.
