CALLINI HOMERS BOMB BRANDEIS BASEBALL
IN TRINITY DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Hartford, Conn.- Junior first baseman Nick Callini (Westfield, Mass.) homered in each game to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 8/5-6/2 sweep over the visiting Brandeis University Judges in an intercollegiate baseball doubleheader this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the New England Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 24-7 overall and snaps a two-game losing streak. Brandeis falls to 19-19.

In the first game, came back from a 6-5 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Callini drew a lead-off walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a ground out to cut the Brandeis lead to one. With two outs in the inning, Bantam sophomore catcher Robert Dolliver (Norwich, Conn.) delivered an RBI single up the middle and Trinity junior shortstop Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, Conn.) scored the game-winning run from first after the ball got past the Brandeis centerfielder.

Brandeis had gone ahead, 3-0, in the third inning, loading the bases on a single by junior Jim Freethey (Manchester, N.H.), a Trinity error, and a walk, and scoring on two wild pitches and a passed ball. After Callini tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run homer, Trinity went ahead, 4-3, on an RBI-double by junior Greg Spanos (Auburn, Mass.). The Judges took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a wild pitch and two Trinity errors.

Trinity sophomore right-hander Jonah Bayliss (Williamstown, Mass.) went the distance, allowing six hits and six unearned runs with eight strikeouts to improve to 5-1 Sophomore righty Tom McShane (Manchester, N.H.) took the loss for the Judges in a complete-game effort.

In the second game, Trinity led, 4-0, after four innings on an RBI ground out by Freimuth in the first inning, RBI singles by freshman catcher Tony O'Shaughnessy (Manchester, N.H.) and Spanos in the second inning, and a solo homer by Callini in the fourth frame. Freethey smacked an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning, and junior catcher Jeremy Taro (Southbridge, Mass.) homered in the seventh for Brandeis. Trinity senior co-captain right-hander Jack Richardson (Arlington, Va.) pitched a six-hitter to improve to 6-1.
