CALLINI LEADS TRINITY BASEBALL
TO WIN OVER BATES
Lewiston, Maine - Junior first baseman Nick Callini (Westfield, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 14-6 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division baseball action this afternoon.
Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 14 in the nation, improves to 22-5 and finishes its NESCAC East Division regular season at 9-3. Bates falls to 1-16 and 0-8 in the league with its fourth straight loss.
Trinity scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed, pulling away at the end with three runs in both the eighth and ninth frames. Bantam junior right-hander Justin Olewnik (Cheshire, Conn.) allowed four hits and struck out six over five innings to earn the win, while freshman Kevin Tidmarsh (Meriden, Conn.) and sophomore Carlos Resto (Framingham, Mass.) held the Bobcats scoreless over the last four innings in relief. Freshman Ben Megrian (Newton, Mass.) took the loss for Bates, despite yielding just three hits in five-plus innings.
