ANASTASIA OUSTS TRINITY BASEBALL FROM NCAA TOURNAMENT

Portland, Maine- Junior outfielder Mike Anastasia (South Boston, MA) went
3-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run, game-winning triple in the
bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Suffolk University Rams to a 7-6 win
over the Trinity College Bantams in the third round of the NCAA Division III
New England Regional Baseball Championship Tournament at Hadlock Stadium.
	The Bantams, seeded No. 5 in the six-team tourney field, is
eliminated from the tournament and finishes the season at 22-9.  Suffolk,
seeded No. 2, improves to 37-8 and will face No. 1 Bridgewater State at 7
p.m. tonight.  The winner of that game will play No.3 Southern Maine in the
championship round tomorrow.
	With Trinity leading 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Suffolk
loaded the bases on two errors by Trinity sophomore shortstop Andrew
Freimuth (Bristol, CT) and an infield single by junior outfielder Jared
Leach (North Kingstown, RI).  Trinity freshman starter Jonah Bayliss
(Williamstown, MA), who struck out 11 but walked eight in  8.2 innings,
walked junior DH Joe Duca (Eastie, MA) to force in a run, and Anastasia
cleared the loaded bases with a three-run triple to give Suffolk a 7-6 lead.
	Suffolk got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single
by Anastasia.  Trinity rallied to tie the score in the second inning when
senior outfielder James Klocek (Grafton, MA) doubled home classmate Todd
Brodeur (Auburn, MA).  The Rams scored runs in the second and third innings
on an RBI single by senior co-captain third baseman Nick Melchionna (Norton,
MA) and a solo homer by Duca.
	Trinity took the lead in the top of the fourth inning off Suffolk
senior co-captain starter Jeff Russell (Quincy, MA).  Russell, who walked
five and hit two in seven-plus innings, walked senior third baseman Jayson
Barbarotta (Trumbull, CT) to start the inning.  After a single by Brodeur,
Klocek drove Barbarotta home on a double.  Senior catcher Jake Miles
(Lewistown, IL) drew a walk and, after a strikeout, Russell walked sophomore
second baseman Greg Spanos (Auburn, MA) and the score was tied at 3-3.
Freimuth hit a sacrifice fly to score Klocek and give Trinity its first lead
of the game at 4-3.
	The Bantams, who scored a fifth run in the sixth inning on an RBI
single by Freimuth and another in the eighth on an RBI double by Spanos, got
the tying run aboard in the ninth on a lead-off walk by senior first baseman
Brian Powell (Holyoke, MA) but Suffolk lefty reliever Peter Quinn
(Dorchester, MA) retired three in a row to earn the win.
