POWELL LEADS TRINITY BASEBALL TO WIN OVER RIC
Hartford, Conn. - Senior southpaw Brian Powell ( Holyoke, MA) scattered six
hits as theTrinity College Bantams downed the visiting Rhode Island College
Anchormen, 6-2, in baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, which is ranked
No. 4 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, improves to 19-6 with its
second consecutive victory. The Anchormen fall to 6-20.
Powell helped his own cause in the first when he singled home
sophomore secind baseman Greg Spanos (Auburn, MA) to give the Bants a lead
they would not relinquish. Trinity put the game out of reach in the fifth
when they scored three runs on four hits. Sophomore first baseman Nick
Callini (Westfield, MA) ripped a two-out two run single and senior backstop
Jake Miles (Lewistown, IL) plated Callini with a triple.
RIC scored runs on a balk and an error. Powell was in control all
afternoon as he struck out five and did not issue a walk. In the process he
improved his record to a perfect 4-0, going the distance in three of those
wins.
