FERRIS ATHLETIC CENTER
Central to all fitness and athletic programs is the
Ferris Athletic Center, which
houses many of the facilities used by students and athletes. These include the
George A. Kellner Squash Center, which is a fitting home base for the top men's
and women's squash programs in the country. It features 10 international-size
courts, two of which are constructed with three glass
walls
for easy spectator viewing, as well as pyramid-style, amphitheater
seating
that enables up to 500 spectators to watch matches on all 10 courts
simultaneously.
The Ferris Center is also home to the
Ray Oosting Gymnasium, with seating
for
2,100. It boasts two volleyball courts and two basketball courts and
was
the site of the men's NCAA Division III basketball regional playoffs in
1995.
Swimmers at Trinity work out in our
Natatorium, which features a 37-meter,
eight-lane
stretch pool with a movable bulkhead. The Natatorium also
features
a diving well equipped with both one-meter and three-meter boards.
Trinity's rowing program takes
advantage of both Hartford's proximity to
the
magnificent Connecticut River and an indoor rowing facility housed in
the
Ferris Athletic Center. During the spring and autumn, rowers work out
on
the river. Sculls are stored in the newly-renovated Friends
of Trinity Rowing Boathouse, which is slated for completion this spring, in East
Hartford.
In the off-season, rowers also stay in shape using our 16-seat
rowing
tanks and 24 stationary ergometers.
Trinity's popular 5,400 square-foot
fitness center offers the full
complement
of fitness machines and state-of-the-art equipment, including selectorized
weight machines, treadmills,
ellipticals,
stairmasters, lifecycles, ergometers, and free weights. The
fitness
center, available to all students and all members of the faculty
and
staff, is open 16 hours a day, seven days a week.
Other indoor facilities include a
multipurpose field house with a
1/10th-mile
track and indoor tennis courts, wrestling and exercise rooms,
and
an auxiliary gymnasium.
Ferris Athletic Center is open to
the community Monday thru Friday 7 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.,
and Sunday Noon to 9:45p.m. Pool hours may differ from standard building
hours.
