The Trinity College volleyball team finished the 1999 season with an 18-15 record and a sixth-place finish at the NESCAC Championships, which were held at Ferris Athletic Center last weekend.
The Bantams, coached by Fran Vandermeer (fourth season) went 3-2 at the Championships, losing, 3-1, to Wesleyan University in the fifth-place match. Senior captain Harleigh Leach (Galway, NY) had an outstanding tournament, totaling 36 kills and 28 blocks and representing Trinity on the All-Tournament squad.
The 1999 All-NESCAC was also chosen over the weekend and sophomore Beth Landry (Brighton, MI) earned second team honors for her performance this season. Landry led Trinity with 296 kills along with 298 digs and 85 blocks.
Men's Soccer (11-3) Sets Win Record
The Trinity College men's soccer team won its final two games of the regular season games this week, defeating Western Connecticut, 2-1, and Stevens Tech, 9-0. The Bantams, coached by Ed Mighten, set a new College record for wins in a season (10) against Western Connecticut and finished with a best-ever 11-3 regular season mark.
Senior forward Mike Wilson (Longmeadow, MA) scored his third game-winner in a row to break a 1-1 tie against Western Connecticut. Senior tri-captain midfielder Dan Rudolph (Hingham,MA) also scored for Trinity, while junior goalkeeper Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, PA) posted eleven saves.
Against Stevens, sophomore Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, CT) recorded his first career hat trick and freshman forward Stuart Poole (Scarborough, ME) scored twice. Senior midfielder Eric Scata (Middletown, CT) scored a goal in his final regular season game as Bantam. Hambrick-Stowe made four saves for his seventh shutout of the fall.
Trinity earned the #3 seed in the ECAC Division III New England Championship tournament and will host #6 Plymouth State on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The Bantams were tied for second in the final NSCAA Division III New England Poll and 25th in the NSCAA Division III National Poll. Women's Harriers Take Sixth at ECAC's
The Trinity College women's cross country team finished sixth at the ECAC Division III Championships at Tufts University last weekend. Sophomore Leeann Rheaume (Pittsfield, MA) lead the Bantams with an 11th-place finish at 19:53, while sophomore Caroline Leary (Bedford, MA) finished 17th with a time of 20:09.
