The Trinity College men's soccer team, coached by Ed Mighten (10th season) won two games last week, blanking Eastern Connecticut State University, 6-0, and edging NESCAC rival Tufts University, 2-1, in overtime.
Junior forward Brett MacQuarrie (Cohasset, MA) had two assists against Eastern and both goals against Tufts, earning NESCAC Player of the Week for his efforts. Senior forward Mike Wilson (Longmeadow, MA) and sophomore forward Peter Zoppi (Cheshire, CT) both scored twice against Eastern Connecticut. The Trinity defense has allowed just nine goals in 10 games this fall with three starters who came into the season with no varsity experience. Senior Kosuke Ikeda (Harrison, NY), sophomore Kamali Davis (Hempstead, NY), and freshman Phil Flakes (Dedham, MA) have combined for 24 starts on the back line. The three have combined with veteran juniors Valentin Toth (Hudson, NH), David Pimentel (Wallingford, CT), and Peter Trimble (Mashpee, MA) to form a solid unit.
Trinity is currently in seventh place in the NSCAA Division III New England Regional Poll this Week. Trinity hosts fourth-ranked Bowdoin in a key NESCAC game this Saturday at 11:00. This week's poll:

Volleyball (12-11) Hosts NESCAC Quad
The Trinity College volleyball team hosted a NESCAC Quad match this weekend and posted a 2-1 record. The Bantams, coached by Fran Vandermeer (fourth season), downed Hamilton College, 3-1, and Connecticut College, 3-0, but dropped a hard-fought, 3-2, decision against Colby College.
Senior captain Harleigh Leach (Galway, NY) posted 32 kills and 13 blocks in the three games, while freshman setter Christine Horton (San Marino, CA) totaled 102 assists and 27 digs.
Women's Soccer (3-5-1) Loses at Tufts
The Trinity women's soccer team, coached by Michael Smith (third season), lost its only game last week, 3-1, at Tufts University.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Bradley (Mansfield, CT) made 13 saves in a losing effort in goal for the Bantams, while sophomore forward Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, MA) scored the Trinity goal from freshman back Meghan Roscio (Glastonbury, CT). Roscio has started every game on defense in her first season with two assists.
Women's Tennis (6-3) Loses Heartbreaker at Tufts
The Trinity College women's tennis team, coached by Wendy Bartlett (16th season), won its sixth consecutive match, 9-0, over Smith College, but dropped a 5-4 marathon against Tufts on Saturday.
Senior tri-captain Heidi Polsen (Chester, NJ) and junior Olga Bogatyrenko (Kharkov, Ukraine) won singles matches and teamed up for doubles triumphs in both contests for Trinity.
The Bantams will finish the 1999 fall campaign this weekend at the New England Division III Championships at Amherst College.
Field Hockey (3-7) Posts Winning Week
Trinity College field hockey team, coached by Kara Tierney (first season), won a pair of 3-0 home games last week, over Division II Southern Connecticut State University and Smith College. The Bantams played Tufts even for 100 minutes on Saturday, forcing the game to be decided on penalty strokes. The teams tied 2-2 after regulation and two overtime periods.
Junior midfielder Whitney Brown (Northfield, IL) enjoyed a successful week with a total of four goals and one assist in three games, including the game-tying goal against Tufts in the final eight minutes. Brown was named the NESCAC Co-Player of the Week for her efforts. Sophomore forward Heather Standring (Spencer, MA) added two goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Mary Jacobs (Malvern, PA) notched one goal and three assists for the week.
Sophomore goalie Jessica Martin (Fort Myers, FL) had 24 saves and two shutouts. Martin has played all but 16 minutes in goal this fall, posting a .867 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average
Cross Country Competes at Division I Meet
The Trinity College men's and women's cross country teams, coached by George Suitor (eighth season), competed at the New England Division I Championships last weekend at Franklin Park in Boston, MA. The men finished 20th of 39 teams and the women came in 36th of 42 teams.
Freshman Ryan Bak (Suffield, CT) was the highest-placing Bantams, coming in 65th with a career-high time of 25:48. Classmate Leeann Rheaume (Pittsfield, MA) finished best of the Bantam women's harriers with a career-high time of 19:49 for 146th place.
Golf Finishes 22nd at New Englands
The Trinity College golf country team, coached by Bill Detrick (ninth season), competed at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships last weekend at New Seabury Country Club in Cape Cod. The men finished 18th of 22 Division III teams in the field.
Junior captain Keith Jendza (Warwick, RI) shot a team-best 79 for Trinity to tie for 25th individually. Sophomore David Magid (Orange, CT) and freshman Jon Martis (Pepper Pike, OH) both shot an 84 to finish tied with several others in 59th place.
