The Trinity College women's ice hockey team followed up an 8-0 loss to Colgate University on. Jan. 6 with its second tie in three games, 2-2, against Union College on Jan. 7.
Trinity freshman goalkeeper Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) made 44 saves in 44 minutes against Colgate, and classmate Blair Kurtz (Encino, Calif.) relieved her making 12 saves in 16 minutes in her collegiate debut.
Against Union, sophomore forward Lindsay Peet (Stowe, Vt.) and freshman forward Samantha Lee (Hartsdale, N.Y.) scored the Trinity goals, and MacKinnon stopped 32 shots in net.
Trinity is currently tied with Union at 0-5-1 for 18th-place in the 19-team Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Wrestling (1-1) Wins One of Four at North/South Duals
The Trinity College wrestling team competed in the North/South Duals at Ursinus College with matches against Baptist Bible College, Muhlenberg College, York College, and host Ursinus College on Jan. 6. The Bantams began the day with an easy, 53-0, triumph over Baptist Bible, before falling short in close matches against Muhlenberg, 27-23, and No. 21 York (Pa.), 22-20. Trinity fell, 30-15, to Ursinus in its fourth match of the day.
Senior captain Michael Marcucio (Derby, Conn.) won all four of his matches at 133 pounds for the Bantams by a combined score of 40-12. Fellow senior captains Steven Mulvihill (Melrose, Mass.) and Ted Govola (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also performed well for Trinity. Mulvihill won three matches, including a pin in his York match, at heavyweight, and Govola won two matches at 174 pounds and 184 pounds. Mulvihill is 9-2 with five pins this season.
Freshman grapplers Michael Doros (East Hartford, Conn.) and Wesley Connell (Simsbury, Conn.) have made an immediate impact for the trinity wrestling team. Doros won three matches out of four, competing at 184 and 194 pounds, while Connell won three of four at 157 pounds. Both also recorded pins against Baptist Bible and Muhlenberg.
The Bantams, ranked No. 10 in the New England Division III Coaches Poll, visit Worcester, Mass. to face No. 8 WPI and No. 9 Williams, along with MIT on Jan. 6.
