Junior guard Alison Hadden (Drexel Hill, Pa.) had 16 points and seven rebounds, sinking all 10 of free throws against Oswego State. Junior forward Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) totaled 14 points and five rebounds, sophomore center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) notched 12 points and 12 boards, and freshman forward Nora Chlupsa (Garden City, N.Y.) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds in her collegiate debut as a Bantam.
Against Case Western Reserve, McCloskey dominated inside with 29 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, sinking 11 of 18 field goal attempts. Dullea notched 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while senior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.) added 12 points, including four three-pointers in eight attempts, and six assists.
Dullea paced Trinity against Albertus with a team-high 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while sophomore guard Shannon Herold (Downers Grove, Ill.) scored a career-high 15 points.
The Bantams are currently tied with Bates for the seventh-best overall record in the NESCAC at 1-2. Trinity is second in the NESCAC in field goal percentage at 46.1 and third in three-point field goal percentage at 34.6.
McCloskey leads the conference in rebounding at 13.7 per game, is second in scoring at 18.7 ppg, and third in field goal shooting at 60.5 percent (23-38). Dullea is fourth in scoring with 17.7 ppg, tied for fourth in assists with 4.0 per game, and sixth in field goal shooting at 52.2 percent (24-26). Siscone is tied with Dullea for fourth in the league in assists with 4.0 per game and is the fourth most accurate three-point shooter with a 41.7 percentage (10-24). Hadden is fifth in the NESCAC in free throw shooting with a 81.3 percentage (13-16) and tied for seventh in field goal shooting at 50.0 percent (12-24).
McCloskey was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for her outstanding performance in the Lady Spartan Classic. She totaled 41 points and 28 rebounds and shot 57.1 percent from the field to make the all-tournament team. Hadden also represented Trinity on the all-tournament squad.
Men's Ice Hockey (3-1-1, 2-0) Starts Strong
The Trinity College men's ice hockey team defeated Wesleyan, 6-2, and Connecticut College, 4-1, in its first two games of the 2000-01 season on Nov. 17 and 18. The Bantams follwed with a 9-4 triumph over Salve Regina University on Nov. 21, but suffered their first loss of the season, 6-2, at Amherst in the Ben McCabe Tournament semifinals on Nov. 25. Trinity played Wesleyan to a 1-1 tie in the McCabe consolation game on Nov. 26
Junior defenseman Martins Lans (Carnikava, Latvia) had a goal and three assists, senior forward Greg Bridgman (Hanover, N.H.) scored two goals, while senior defenseman Justin Clarke (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior forward Matt Greason (North Bridgton, Maine) notched a goal and an assist aginst Wesleyan. Junior goaltender Geoffrey Faulkner (Westerville, Ohio) stopped 27 shots in the victory.
Against Connecticut College, junior defenseman Brian Fenwick (Birmingham, Mich.) and Greason each scored a goal and an assist, while freshman forward Steven Labrie (Springfield, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal for the Bantams. Faulkner made 15 saves to improve to 2-0 for the season.
Greason recorded a hat trick plus an assist and freshmen Dan Gyllstrom (Hudson, Mass.) and Brian Dutt (Bronx, N.Y.) scored their first collegiate goals against Salve Regina. Gyllstrom also assisted on three goals in the game.
In the McCabe Tournament, Gyllstrom scored a goal and assisted on a second and Faulkner made 42 saves in the defeat against Amherst. Sophomore forward Greg O'Leary (Reading, Mass.) scored the Bantam goal in the consolation and Faulkner had 31 saves in 65 minutes to salvage the tie against Wesleyan.
Trinity is currently tied with Bowdoin, Colby, and Middlebury for first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with a 2-0 league record and second in the conference in overall points with eight. Greason is tied for second in the NESCAC in scoring with six goals and four assists for 10 points, while Faulkner is the league's fourth best goalie with a 2.45 GAA. Greason was named to the NESCAC honor roll for his performance against Wesleyan and Connecticut College, totaling two goals and three assists in the two games.
Men's Basketball (2-1) Wins Two Straight
The Trinity College men's basketball team lost in the semifinals of the Oneonta State College Holiday Inn Classic Tip-Off Tournament with an 67-65 loss to Baldwin-Wallace on Nov. 18. The Bantams downed Hartwick, 69-57, in the consolation game on Nov. 19 and defeated Eastern Connecticut, an NCAA Tournament team last year, 81-68, in its home opener on Nov. 21.
Junior guard Colin Tabb (Somers, Conn.) paced Trinity with 17 points and seven rebounds against Baldwin-Wallace. Senior guard Mike Keohane (Belmont, Mass.) added 14 points and three assists and junior forward Brian Dion (East Haven, Conn.) totaled 13 points and five rebounds in his first game back from last year's season-ending knee injury.
Against Hartwick, Keohane scored 17 points and dished out four assists and made eight of 10 shots from the foul line. Tabb led Trinity with 22 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Dion notched 12 points and 12 boards.
Senior guard Scott Wallach (Scarsdale, N.Y.) erupted for 24 points against Eastern Connecticut, sinking eight of 14 shots from the field and four of seven from three-point range, and dished out five assists. Tabb added 17 points and a career-high 18 boards and junior center Julian Bah (Concord, Mass.) notched 11 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
The Bantams are currently tied with three other teams for the fourth-best overall record in the NESCAC at 2-1. Trinity is currently third in the NESCAC in free throw percentage at 72.1 and three-point field goal percentage at 37.3.
Tabb is fourth in the league in scoring at 18.7 ppg and third in rebounding at 10.3 per game, and Keohane is eight in scoring with 15.3 ppg, sixth in assists with 4.3 per game, fourth in field goal shooting at 61.9 percent (13-21), and eight in free throw shooting at 77.3 percent (17-22). Dion is the fourth-leading rebounder in the NESCAC with 9.3 per game and the seventh most accurate field goal shooter with a 55.6 percentage (15-27), while Bah is eighth in the league in rebounding at 7.7 per game and tied for third in the league with two blocks per contest.Wallach is sixth in the NESCAC in free throw shooting with a 90.0 percentage (9-10) and tied for sixth in three-point shooting at 50.0 percent (6-12).
Keohane was named to the all-tournament team at Oneonta State and to the NESCAC honor roll for his performance in the Classic. Keohane totaled 31 points and shot 69.2 percent from the field in the two games. Tabb was selected as the NESCAC Co-Player of the Week for his play against Eastern Connecticut.
Women's Ice Hockey (0-2) Loses Pair
The Trinity College women's ice hockey team lost at Rensselaer, 5-1, and Vermont, 5-0, in its first weekend of the 2000-01 season on Nov. 18 and 19.
Sophomore Lindsay Peet (Stowe, Vt.) scored the Trinity goal against Rensselaer. Freshman Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, N.Y.) made 58 saves in her Trinity debut in goal, and stopped 41 shots the next day against Vermont.
Trinity is currently tied with three other teams for 16th-place in the 19-team Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Swimming (M0-1, W0-1) Loses at Bates
The Trinity College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both lost at Bates on Nov. 18 in the season opener for both squads and the debut of Head Coach Kristen Noone.
In a 219-79 loss for the Bantam women, senior tri-captain Katie Bryant (Concord, Mass.) scored a188.10 to win the three-meter dive. The men lost, 209-89, despite first-pace finishes by sophomore Chris Rorer (Villanova, Pa.) in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. Rorer finished the 100 in 1:05.21 and the 200 in 2:25.05.
Wrestling Places 14th at Doug Parker Invitational
The Trinity College wrestling team, ranked No. 6 in New England and No. 28 in NCAA Division III in pre-season, finished 14th in the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College on Nov. 18. Trinity brought just eight wrestlers to the competition.Senior captain Steven Mulvihill ( Melrose, Mass.) finished third in the heavyweight division for the Bantams. Mulvihill recovered from a loss in the opening round to win six consecutive matches, including four pins, en route to the third-place title.
