Volleyball (15-18) Surprises With Fourth Place at NESCAC's
The Trinity College volleyball team finished fourth at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships on November 3-4 at Bowdoin College.The No. 7-seeded Bantams, coached by Renee Najarian, blanked No.10 Connecticut College, 3-0, and upset No. 2 William College to advance to the semifinals. Williams is coached by Fran Vandermeer, who was the Trinity coach from 1996-1999. Eventual champion and No. 3 Amherst defeated the Bantams, 3-1, in the semifinal match, and Trinity dropped a 3-1 decision to No.1 Middlebury in the third-place match to finish the season at 15-18.
Junior co-captain Kristin Hagan (San Francisco, Calif.) totaled 35 kills and 35 digs in the four matches, while sophomore Christine Horton (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched 118 assists, 39 digs, and eight blocks. Junior Beth Landry (Troy, Mich) added 33 kills, 31 digs, and 12 blocks for Trinity.
Trinity set several season records in the 2000 season. Hagan set new College records for attacks with 945, kills with 349, kills per game with 3.01, digs with 365, and digs per game with 3.15. Horton eclipsed her won assists per game record with 9.19 this fall.
Women's Cross Country Place Third at ECAC Championships
The Trinity College women's cross country team finished third as a team at the Eastern College Athletic Conferneec (ECAC) Division III Championships on November 4 in North Grafton, Mass.Freshman Karen Roy (Ashford, Conn.) finished 14th overall and classmate Kristina DePeau (Stafford, Conn.) was close behind Roy in 19th place. Roy ran a time of 19:43.9 and DePeau finished in 19:50.5. The squad competed without the services of its top runner, sophomore Leann Rheaume (Pittsfield, Mass.).
