Volleyball (13-15) Loses at Western Connecticut

The Trinity College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision against the Western Connecticut State University Colonials in volleyball action on October 24.

Freshman Carolyn Walker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) totaled 11 digs and seven blocks, while junior Beth Landry (Troy, Mich.) added 16 kills and 24 digs, and freshman Anjuli Bala (San Antonio, Texas) made 15 digs for the Bantams.

Trinity finished the New England Small College Athletic (NESCAC) regular season in seventh place with a 4-6 league mark. As the No. 7 seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament, which will take place on Nov. 3 and 4 at Bowdoin College, Trinity will face No. 10 Connecticut College in the opening round.

Junior co-captain Kristin Hagan (San Francisco, Calif.) is currently third in the NESCAC in kills with 3.77 per game and 10th in digs with 3.24 per game. Sophomore Isabelle Krusen (Tampa, Fla.) is third in the NESCAC in digs with 324 3.77 per game, while Landry ranks 10th in the league in blocks with 0.82 per game.

Men's Soccer (5-6-3, 2-6-1) Misses NESCAC Tourney

The Trinity College men's soccer team split its last two games of the 2000 season with a 2-0 shtuout of Clark University on October 24 and a 3-0 loss at NESCAC rival Amherst College on October 28. The loss to Amherst gave Trinity its first sub-.500 record since 1996.

Against Clark, senior tri-captain forward Brett MacQuarrie (Cohasset, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist. Freshman back Marcello Micozzi (Newton, Mass.) scored his first career goal, and fellow rookie Michael Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) made two saves in goal in his first career shutout. Doherty added a career-high 10 saves against Amherst.

Trinity finishes the season tied with Bates College for eighth place in the NESCAC with a 2-6-1 record, and narrowly missed a bid to the first-ever NESCAC Championship Tournament. Senior goalkeeper Tom Hambrick-Stowe (Lancaster, Pa.), who missed the season's final three games with a shoulder injury, still finished fourth in the league with a 1.00 GAA.

Sophomore forward Morgan Sandell (Cohasset, Mass.) finished the season as the team's leading scorer with five goals and an assist for 11 points. Senior tri-captain midfielder Caley Iandiorio (Wayland, Mass.) had two goals and six assists for six points, and MacQuarrie totaled five points on two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Steven Rovithus (Agawam, Mass.), who had a goal and two assists, was the only Bantam to start all 14 games for Head Coach Ed Mighten.

Greason Leads Golf to 15th at New Englands

The Trinity College golf team concluded its fall season at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships. The Bantams placed 15th out of 46 teams and fifth among Division III schools at the Championships, which were held at The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. on October 23-24.

Junior Matt Greason (North Bridgton, Maine) shot a 75 on the second day for a two-round total of 175. Greason was named as a Division III All-New England member with the fourth-best total among Division III compeititors. He was tied for 19th overall with three other golfers.

Markelz Earns All-NESCAC For Cross Country at NESCAC's

The Trinity College cross country teams competed at the NESCAC Championships on October 28 at Amherst College. The men, behind a fifth-place performance by senior co-captain Todd Markelz (Homer, Alaska), finished third and the women came in 10th.

Markelz ran a time of 26:30 to earn First Team All-NESCAC honors and help the Bantams total 98 points, which was one point behind second place Bowdoin at 97.

Sophomore Ryan Bak (Suffield, Conn.) was also an All-NESCAC harrier, earning second team honors with a 13th-place time of 26:52. Classmate James Emord (Bridgewater, Mass.) narrowly missed all-league honors with a 15th place finishes and a time of 27:01, while sophomore Ryan Lerner (South Windsor) also ran well with a 28th place time of 27:38 in cold and windy conditions.

Freshman Karen Roy (Ashford, Conn.) was the highest finisher for the Trinity women, placing 27th with a time of 19:57. Trinity's top female runner, sophomore Leeann Rheaume (Pittsfield, Mass.), did not compete.

The Trinity men are currently ranked No. 6 in New England and No.22 in NCAA Division III. The Bantam women are No.11 in New England. This week's New England polls:
