Baseball (17-6) Pounds WNEC

The Trinity College baseball team defeated Western New England College, 14-7, on April 18 before dropping a 4-1 decision at Eastern Connecticut State University on April 19. The Bantams, coached by Bill Decker, have won nine of their last 11 games.

Against Western New England, senior third baseman Jayson Barbarotta (Trumbull, CT) had three hits with a home run and three RBI and senior first baseman Brian Powell (Holyoke, MA) had three hits, two runs, and four RBI. Sophomore shortstop Andrew Freimuth (Bristol, CT) added three hits and three runs senior rightfielder James Klocek (Grafton, MA) had a double, a home run, and three RBI.

Senior righthander Brendan Moss (Orange, CT) pitched into the eighth ining, allowing seven hits and striking out four in a losing effort at Eastern Connecticut. Powell and sophomore second baseman Greg Spanos (Auburn, MA) each had two of the Bantams' eight hits.

Trinity is tied with Bowdoin for the best record in the nine-team NESCAC thus far at 7-3. Powell leads the league in hitting with a .500 batting average, while Freimuth is third at .441 and sophomore second baseman Spanos is seventh at .417. Freshman righthander Jonah Bayliss (Williamstown, MA) is third in the league in earned run average at 1.62 in 33.1 innings and junior righthander Jarrett Bayliss (Williamstown, MA), Jonah's older brother, is sixth at 2.45 in 33 innings.

The Bantams are currently ranked No. 4 in the New England Coaches' Division III Poll and No. 22 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division III National Poll.

Softball (10-19) Shuts Out Wesleyan

The Trinity College softball team defeated NESCAC rival Wesleyan University, 10-0, on April 19 before getting swept in a non-league double-header against Western Connecticut State University on April 20.

Sophomore righthander Heather Standring (Spencer, MA) came within two outs of a no-hitter before allowing a single in the fifth and final inning in a complete-game shutout. Freshman outfielder Kelly Kempner (Amherst, NY) had two hits and two runs.

Against Western Connecticut, freshman righthander Kristi McDermott (Barrington, RI) lost the first game despite allowing just four hits. Junior third baseman Brianna Stanton (Clive, IA) and freshman centerfielder Laura Heath (Windsor, CT) each had a pair of hits.

Trinity has the fifth-best record in the nine-team NESCAC at 4-5. Junior third baseman Brianna Stanton is third in the league in hitting with a .427 average.

Men's Lacrosse (9-2) Splits with Wesleyan and Middlebury

The Trinity College men's lacrosse team won, 9-8, against NESCAC rival Wesleyan University on April 19, but the Bantams dropped their second game of the season, 18-10, at league rival Middlebury on April 22.

Junior midfielder David Achterhof (Fairfax, VA) scored the game-winner with 16 seconds remaining in the game against Wesleyan. Senior midfielder Andy Hayes (Philadelphia, PA) had four goals and Senior tri-captain attackman Bobby Souers (Montgomery Village, MD) added two goals and an assist. Senior tri-captain goalie Matt Jerry (Acton, MA) stopped 15 shots.

Against Middlebury, freshman attackman Ravi Pillay (Bethesda, MD) netted a career-high five goals and senior attackman Alex Ullman (North Haven, CT) had two goals. Jerry stopped 31 shots in goal as Trinity kept the game close before being outscored 6-0 in the fourth period against the nationally-ranked Miiddlebury Panthers.

Trinity has the fourth-best record in the NESCAC at 6-2. Jerry is fourth in the league in goalkeeping with an 9.48 goals against average, while Souers is third in scoring with 49 points (31 goals, 18 assists). Jerry was named to the NESCAC honor roll after totaling 31 saves last week.

The Bantams are currently ranked No. 19 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll, No. 23 in the Laxpower.com Division III power ratings, and No. 5 in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) regional poll.

Trinity hosts Eastern Connecticut State University, ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 20 in the nation, on Wednesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. and league rival Bowdoin College, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 8 in the nation, on Saturday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. This week's New England poll:

Women's Lacrosse (3-7) Loses Two

The Trinity College women's lacrosse team lost, 19-0, against NESCAC rival Middlebury College at Northfield, MA, on April 18 and 20-6, against league opponent Amherst College on April 22.

Against Amherst, sophomore attack Ashley Taylor (Washington, DC) netted three goals and freshman defense Maria Lingnau (Mendham, NJ) scored her first career goal. Senior goalkeeper Kate Derosier (Longmeadow, MA) stopped 14 shots against the undefeated Amherst Lady Jeffs.

Trinity is tied with Colby for the seventh-best record in the 10-team NESCAC at 2-6. Trinity, coached by Kara Tierney, is ranked No. 20 in the Laxpower.com national power ratings. The Bantams host Bowdoin College, ranked No. 8 in the nation, on Saturday, April 29 at 12 noon.

Men's Rowing Beats New Hampshire

The Trinity College men's rowing team defeated the University of New Hampshire in the varsity-eight race at Worcester, MA with a time of 5:58.58 on April 22. The women's varsity-eight lost to New Hampshire with a time of 7:02.20.

The Trinity women's squad is currently tied for No. 17 with Colby College and the University of San Diego in the NCAA Division II/III Varsity Eight national poll. The men's varsity eight is ranked No. 25 in the United States Rowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches' Association (CRCA) National Poll.

 Men's Tennis (13-4) Concludes Dual Season

The Trinity College men's tennis team lost, 6-1, at MIT on April 20, and at home against NESCAC rival Williams College on April 22 before dropping Skidmore, 5-2, on Easter Sunday. The Bantams, coached by Paul Assaiante, are currently ranked No. 5 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III East rankings.

Outdoor Track & Field

The Trinity College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on April 22. The Bantam women's squad finished fourth out of 12 teams with 70 points and the men's team came in fifth out of 10 teams.
